The Governor's School for the Arts Spring Orchestra Concert - Friday Evening
From June 02, 2017 until June 02, 2017
Friday, June 2 at 7:30 PM
Join GSA Jazz and the GSA Orchestra for a program featuring one of the very first performances of a newly-discovered work by Igor Stravinsky. Thought to have been destroyed after the 1917 revolution, the Chant Funèbre (1909) was never seen again after its first performance in Saint Petersburg. In 2016, it was uncovered in a room at the conservatory. Tonight, you will hear the first performance of this work in Virginia and the eleventh performance of the work since its premiere. Stravinsky's score for the ballet Petrushka follows. It has been performed thousands of times since its Paris premiere in 1911. GSA is honored to present it in its original version.
Following intermission, GSA Big Band and combos will take the stage with a variety of jazz standards.
